RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- West Ham United has made a formal offer to sign Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor, according to media reports in Brazil.
The Rio de Janeiro club rejected an initial bid of eight million euros (9.3 million U.S. dollars) but is now considering a counteroffer, Globo Esporte reported on Saturday.
It added that Manchester United and Everton had also shown interest in the 29-year-old.
John is currently contracted to Botafogo until 2028, having joined the club from Santos in January last year.
He was named the best goalkeeper in last year's Brazilian Serie A and Copa Libertadores, competitions that were both won by Botafogo.
West Ham currently has two Brazilians in its squad: midfielder Lucas Paqueta and winger Luis Guilherme. ■
