HONG KONG, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Saturday held an event to mark the 100-day countdown to the opening of China's 15th National Games.

John Lee, chief executive of the HKSAR, and Zhou Ji, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, attended the event which took place at the Tseung Kwan O Cycling Velodrome.

Speaking at the event, Lee said that in the next 100 days, the HKSAR will focus on optimizing competition procedures, refining service arrangements, and strengthening safety measures, to build a fair stage for athletes and create an unforgettable viewing experience for spectators.

Hong Kong will fully leverage its international and professional strengths in organizing the games, contributing to China's development as a sporting powerhouse, and telling China's sports story to the world, Lee added.

The National Games Coordination Office (Hong Kong) launched the "100-Day to the National Games -- All Together for 1 Million KM Challenge" in July. The 999,900 km mission of the challenge has been accomplished online by local residents, and the remaining 100 km mission was completed at the velodrome on Saturday.

China's 15th National Games will be co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in November 2025, with Hong Kong featuring eight competitive sports. ■
